Our Visit to Sky Frame HQ in Zurich
Sky-Frame is the world’s leading sliding window system. Their prominent position within the industry has been achieved through technical expertise and knowledge of architectural and spatial design. Sky-Frame supply products globally and have won numerous prestigious design and business awards for their frameless sliding windows.
The Sky-Frame philosophy centers around the concept that the frameless sliding windows and the flush transition between ‘indoors and outdoors’ produce exceptional architectural creations, together with an unbounded spatial experience. Their design results in spectacular vistas and the company standby their mantra, "A View not a Window".
The Swiss company designs feature floor to ceiling and wall to wall glazing to create a seamless transition and free flowing spaces and the frameless filigree sliding windows mean it is hard to tell where the interior ends and the view begins.
As guests of Sky-Frame and Clear Living they were treated to a wonderful trip to the beautiful Rhein Falls followed by Dinner at the stylish Glass Restaurant Schlossli Worth with its magnificent panoramic views of the falls.
The trip to Zurich was also a chance to enjoy the contemporary architecture of the city and surrounding area. In particular, the Library for the Law Faculty of the University of Zurich. The old Library building from Hermann Fietz was built in 1909. Architect Santiago Calatrava was then commissioned in 1989 to work on the building but it took another ten years until the construction started.
The curved space harmoniously flows through the inner courtyard and becomes more narrow on the two sides. The glass dome on the roof allows the light to get through down to the first floor. There are no crossing points between the new building structure and the façades of the old building & the expansion building is characterized by a strong contrast between old and new.
The remarkable integration of the new building into the surrounding cultivation & sensitive integration along with a strong contrast, Architect Calatrava shows in Zurich just how this can be achieved with outstanding Architectural detail and implementation.
